On Sunday 22 March, our Senior Wind Band took part in the Scottish Concert Band Festival Finals in Perth Concert Hall. The previous week had been a busy one with Music Festival performances as well as many in the band performing in the Highland Council Regional Music Groups Concert Festival in Eden Court, Inverness. However, that didn't dampen the spirits despite a 7.00 a.m. start on the day itself.
The Band was competing against seven other bands from all over Scotland and the young musicians were more than a little nervous as they took to the stage. Their nerves were calmed though as soon as the music started and, with a very supportive audience behind them, they relaxed and played to the best of their abilities. Their performance was rounded off with cries of 'Bravo' from the huge concert hall audience.
We all managed to hear another band in our class before the adjudication was made and it was a very positive one for the group. We were awarded a Gold Plus along with just one other band in the class! The adjudicator praised the group for teamwork and musicality and led a huge round of applause for the excellent percussion section.
Both myself and Miss Thomson are extremely proud of these fine young musicians whose very musical performance showed real maturity and professionalism. Bravo indeed! Mark Reynolds, Brass Instructor
