Well done Nicole Cameron, 5R, who was runner-up in the annual Rotary West Regional final of the Young Chef competition held at the South Lanarkshire College on 27 January. Nicole wowed the judges with her starter of haggis ravioli with whisky sauce, loin of venison main course with vegetable stack and rhubarb chutney finished off with a white raspberry crème brulee with home-made shortbread. She now progresses to represent Lochaber in the Scotland and North of England Final on 4th March.
Nicole faced stiff competition from eight other contestants who had all come through their own local heats in the West of Scotland. The young chefs are required to prepare a healthy meal of their choice for two people, to demonstrate their ability to be creative without the need for expensive ingredients and to follow the principles of a healthy diet. The young chefs are judged on their healthy menu, planning and organisational skills, hygiene, preparation skills and, of course, the taste and presentation of their meal.
Good luck in the next round!
