Ms Barr in Physics, Mr Cameron in Technical and Miss McCourt in Art & Design recently got together to work on an impromptu and informal cross-curricular S1 unit in Art and Design. Pupils were asked to design lights for a proposed opening of an underwater sea life centre in the local area to feature bio-luminescent sea creatures.
After studying the sea creatures through sketching their shape/form/pattern/features/colour-mixing, pupils then learned how bio-luminescence worked in an S1 Science lesson.
Lights were produced entirely with recyclable materials that were translucent as well as wire, plastic straws and sellotape only.
Pupils chose the top twelve lights from their peers based on set criteria then Mr Cameron and Ms Barr were invited along to judge the final six lights that met the criteria best, based on scientific and technical aspects (3 x design teams from 1b and 3 x design teams from 1g).
