So, the end of another amazing trip to Iceland with a group of 25 pupils. How did this compare with previous trips? As always the pupils were top notch; the sights were out of this world; the weather was the usual mix of sun, snow, rain and gales; the northern lights once again put on a show; the glaciers have retreated by another few hundred metres; the Golden Circle is much busier; the spas felt colder; and still the most overused word is wow!
Watching a volcanic geyser bubble up and then spout 10m into the air. Wow. Standing above Europe’s most powerful waterfall. Wow. Walking on hot rocks next to boiling mud pools and snow. Wow. Seeing enormous storm waves break on black sands. Wow. Swimming in the Blue Lagoon and in the Atlantic Ocean’s only geothermally heated beach. Double Wow! Walking behind a waterfall larger than any in Britain. Wow. Standing beneath a hidden waterfall in a lava cave. Wow. Stepping from Europe to North America and back across the tectonic rift. Wow.
Here is a selection of photos from this year’s trip. As you can see, it is too difficult to pick a single highlight. And that’s why we keep going back to Iceland!
