Lochaber Schools’ Pipe Band (LSPB) played their final street performance of the 2018 summer season on Thursday 30th August. Mr Steele was in attendance to present certificates to our leavers, Megan Campbell and Amber MacDonald. Both have played with the band for six years and each was given a personalised photo book in recognition of their commitment and dedication. Rhian Daly, S6 was this year’s recipient of the June Standen shield for dress and bearing.
The draw for the band’s fund raising raffle also took place. Congratulations to Alan Gray, Blaich who won a signed and framed Celtic Invincibles top and medal. Jeanette Kane, Banavie won £100 and Lucy Bloom, South Laggan won £50. Thanks to everyone who bought and sold tickets. Our street parades and activities are needed to raise the necessary funds to meet the running costs of the band and enable us to offer free membership, instruments and tuition to those wishing to join the band.
Summer 2018 has been a busy time for the band. On the first day of the school holidays, the band travelled to Hull to catch the ferry to Belgium. The band performed in De Haan, Belgium on 1st July and in the Jardin de Luxembourg in central Paris on the 2nd July. The travelling group of 24, all students and staff at Lochaber High School also had time to enjoy sightseeing in Paris and Bruges as well as a day at Disneyland Paris. The pipe band is very grateful to the LMM Business Enterprise Trust for a donation of £2000 and Liberty, Fort William for a donation of £500. Without such financial assistance, it would be very hard to open up this opportunity to all who wished to take part.
