In the maths department we had lots of different activities such as the national Maths Wi Nae Borders competition and the Deputy First Minister’s daily challenges for Maths Week Scotland. Across the school we have had a ‘number of the day’ calculation every morning alongside some trivia and maths questions. Staff and pupils wore their numbers on a label. The PE and biology departments even tweeted out their labels!
There was a maths quiz for all tutor support classes and three groups managed to get a better score than Mr Beagent to win a prize. 4R2, 5N and 6N managed to get a higher score and received some sweet treats.
On Tuesday 11th September we had our first ever Family Games and Puzzle night as part of our programme of activities for Maths Week Scotland. The maths department had a whole host of games, puzzles, Chromebooks, activities and books for pupils, parents/carers and siblings to have fun with. Lots of imagination, logic, competition, strategy and problem solving was demonstrated throughout the evening and great enjoyment was had by all. Hopefully next year word will get around given how much fun we had and even more families will attend.
The department were on hand to answer any maths/numeracy questions and class materials were available to view and try out.
On behalf of the department, a big thanks to all who supported Maths Week Scotland in any way. Some pictures of the activities both at the games evening, across the school and department are shown below.
