Our 2017 winter ski trip saw thirty-two S1-3 pupils and four members of staff head out for Les Menuires in the French Alps for a week of ski instruction, fun and ski resort experience.
We set off for Glasgow airport at 2:00 am on a Saturday morning, waved away by parents and friends. Two pupils had not flown before but embraced the experience fully.
With our close proximity to the ski tows of Nevis Range, all of our Primary pupils are given the opportunity to take part in a four-day introduction to skiing, some of them catch the bug. This trip provided an opportunity for them to enhance their skills with six days of tuition from English speaking instructors in the rarefied atmosphere of the French Alps for four hours per day.
Many of our pupils taking part would not ever have access to this type of trip as their parents are non-skiers but they come back with confidence, an appreciation of the work and thought given by all to get them this experience and an awareness of their local surroundings and what is on offer. Additional evening activities consisted of: Town Trail; Mad Mudder Olympics; Film-night; Bumboarding and an ongoing quiz challenge with five teams.
From our review, we had comments like, “Amazing”, “Fantastic”, “Brilliant”, “Great Fun”, “Magic”, “Great Skiing” and, of course, “Take me back!” It is also worth stating that, when asked, all of our S1 pupils said that they would recommend this trip to current P7 pupils.
Our pupils were, once again, complimented for their behaviour and general positive attitude by the staff in the hotel, on the flights and by the coach driver; a credit to them all. Plans are currently underway to run a 2018 trip and initial returns indicate a large uptake.
